Snacks. We all need them, we all eat them—whether or not they’re actually good for us. Who among us hasn’t chosen a package of Swedish Fish over a boring banana or an uninspiring carrot when the 3 p.m. “hangrys” strike? Enter This Bar Saves Lives, designed to save us all from our worst snacking selves with delish flavor combos like Madagascar vanilla, almond, and honey and (our fave) dark chocolate, peanut butter, and sea salt. This oh-so-good snack has the power to save the day, it’s true—but imagine if that same snack could save a life, too?
That’s exactly the bold goal set forth by TBSL masterminds and actors Ryan Devlin (Brothers & Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy) and Todd Grinnell (One Day At A Time, Revenge). Following a humanitarian trip to Africa, the pair (along with pals and co-founders Kristen Bell and Ravi Patel) created This Bar Saves Lives to be a one-to-one giveback: when you buy the non-GMO, gluten-free, fair-trade, and bee-friendly (!) snack bar, a severely malnourished child in a developing country receives a packet of life-saving food. It’s a concept of giving back that’s already had a direct impact: to date, 1.5+ million bars have been sold and saved 10,000+ children’s lives in the process. Now that’s what we call a snack. —Jennifer Henderson
