Good Works: We See a Beautiful Opportunity

It’s so much easier to indulge a deep and abiding beauty habit when you know your (many, many) purchases are making a difference in the lives of others. Take Make Beauty, for example: the paraben-free, never-tested-on-animals line of beauty products not only encourages self-expression through color play, but it also donates 10 percent of sales to the We See Beauty Foundation, which supports women-led, worker-owned cooperative businesses around the globe. The brand’s latest partnership—with Opportunity Threads, a sustainable, worker-owned cut-and-sew factory in North Carolina, and award-winning social enterprise Mercado Global, which works with women-led artisan cooperatives in Guatemala—has produced something every beauty aficionado requires: an ethically created beauty bag. The exclusive line of bags features gorgeous fabric, hand-woven by Mayan artisans, and is sewn and finished in North Carolina. Additionally, through a We See Beauty Foundation grant funded by Make Beauty, Opportunity Threads was able to develop a training program for new worker-owners of the factory, as well as purchase necessary equipment to take the business to the next level. It’s beauty at its very, very best.
