Michelle Adams is one prolific designing woman—and for the record, we’ve loved every project she’s ever had her hands on. She co-founded Lonny. She brought back the beloved Domino. She launched TRADhome and the organic-textile company Rubie Green. In her spare time (insert laughter here) she’s a creative consultant helping design-minded brands hone their narratives and collections (see: Artfully Walls). What could she possibly have up her stylish sleeve next? We’ll just have to wait and see. “I have a freedom now that simply didn’t exist before, and I find myself more energized, focused, happy, and creative than I have been in years.” —Jennifer Henderson
Her origin story: “In third grade, I asked for a duvet cover and matching curtains for my birthday. I mean, what eight-year-old does that?”
Her work ethic: “I’m a bit of a workaholic, but I suppose I pour the most energy into the projects that excite me. Regardless, if I’m going to put my name on a project, I give it my all.”
Her highlight: “Being hired as the editor in chief of Domino. It brought a whole new level of legitimacy to the editorial work I had been creating.”
Her aesthetic: “For my home, I look for cool juxtapositions: an antique console paired with a modern lamp, or a bohemian tablecloth with structured chairs. In fashion, I love pairing a classic Cartier watch with a neon string bracelet. I’m obsessed with The Line and gravitate toward the fluid lines of Vince, Protagonist, and James Perse. I’m also in love with Sophie Buhai’s entire jewelry collection.”
Her must-haves: “True Botanicals face oil: It’s all natural and makes my skin feel and smell amazing. Sonos speakers: I’m obsessed with music and so happy to be living in a house where I can blast my favorite tunes at all hours. WaterRower: I rowed in crew during high school so I was thrilled to discover this rowing machine. It’s literally so beautiful that even the MoMa carries it. And Wendy Nichol bags. I covet all of her designs.”
Her blog: “After a decade of working as an editor, I missed having an outlet to share the cool things I stumble upon. The Maryn has been a fun side project.”
Her influences: “For years, I’ve been inspired by the Italian architect Michele Bönan. His designs are completely timeless, elegant, and edgy at the same time. I’m also crazy for Malene Birger’s interiors and Jenni Kayne’s and Jessica de Ruiter’s California cool vibe.”
Her social circle: “I Insta-stalk and . I also love checking in on my friends at .”
Her true beauty: “Feeling comfortable in your own skin, which, to be honest, is something I’ve always struggled with. I admire women who are confident regardless of their shape or size and exude positive energy.”
Her must-sees: “Marrakech! It’s completely magical and is a feast for the eyes for any design-lover. I also recommend a trip to California to visit Venice, Malibu, Montecito, Sausalito, and Sonoma. Gorgeous hikes, exquisite food, incredible shopping, and breathtaking views. #takemethere”
Her reno reco: “I was surprised to learn that renovating a home is basically a full-time job. My favorite part is taking a space that’s hideous and unearthing its true potential. I’d recommend investing in renovations to take care of the true eyesores in your home rather than trying to mask them with decor.”
Her motto: “‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.’ My grandpa and my dad are my role models, and always treat people kindly. I strive to do the same.”
Her future: “I’m launching an online shop very soon. Owning a store has been a dream of mine, so I recently took the plunge and applied for a small-business loan to make it a reality. It will be called The Maryn, which means “lady of the sea” or “from the sea,” and as such it will carry coastal-inspired finds from my travels and pieces from some of my favorite designers. I’m pretty psyched.”
